At any point in our lives, we have told a lie.
Before anyone were to protest, a white lie is a lie... it is not the truth. There were perhaps times when we tell a little "white" lie so that the other person will not be hurt or feel bad... At least that's what we perceive it to be. In any case, when did we start to have white and black lie? When is a lie bad? and in what situation is it good? Or is lying bad, regardless of the situation and the intention?
Some of us have perhaps proclaimed that we want only the truth and we demand that people around us to tell only the truth. We claimed that the lie will hurt more than the truth. But are we all able to accept the true picture? "Truth hurts" is a saying that is commonly used and said by many. Are we really hurt by truth or is it something else?
Some of us are in denial. Some of us are in our own web of deception. We weave our own ideal, make believe lives, and we live in lies everyday. We seek false affirmation from others so that we can continue to believe the facade we created. Should there be someone who comes along and state the obvious and truth, we get "hurt" and feel the "injustice"and we retaliate by being defensive and protest. There are times when we ourselves believe the deception that we had created and we forget who we really are. To the extent that the truth becomes unbearable and we strongly believe it to be false. What is it that we cannot face? Are we disappointed by who we really are and thus seek comfort in hiding behind the curtain of lies? Do we have the courage to face reality and accept what's to come?
It definitely takes courage to live one's life honestly. At times when we are so tempted to tell a lie, to conceal what we really are, just so that we won't have to reveal our own weakness and flaws, think again. Do we want to keep up with the pretences? Afterall, it doesn't end with one lie. There will be at later time when we have to tell a bigger lie to make this one believable.
